So, you've celebrated National Day, yesterday? Yes, you! With that T-Shirt made in Hong Kong bought purposely for a special occasion! Yes you too, who made all the trouble painting your cheeks with the flag of Singapore! Not forgetting to those who merrily pushed against each other around National Stadium. Ahhh. the holy pilgrimage for those who are true blue Singaporeans. Unlucky for some, but to those 60,000 people who pushed their way in, you should give yourself a smack in the face. A punch more likely. And to the rest of 2.2 million viewers watching from home. (Though I do wonder, what are opposition MPs doing while it's
National Day. Do they get free tickets to the show?)
Anyway, since you've celebrated Singapore birthday, and loudily show your pompus best to show your lluurrvee to Singapore, here's a checklist to show how more Singaporean you are! Take it away!
1.I feel very Singaporean, because:
a)this is my country! i love it! i show it only doing national day by booking lots of NDP tickets!
b)i get a chance to have a goodie bag every year. oh yeah and i have the opportunity to be in an environment where EVERYTHING is spick and span.
c)i was born in a society where everything has to be streamlined.
2.I like celebrating National Day because:
a)it gives me the chance to be able to properly sing the National Anthem without being forced though i could sing it everyday. Also, Singaporeans can see me singing it on TV!
b)I can see a huge fireworks display!
c)I can see hundreds of thousands of pretentious Singaporeans celebrating their love for Singapore. Oh yeah, it's a public holiday too.
3.Singing the National Anthem means that I am:
a)very proud of what the government, and not me, had done to Singapore. Oh yeah and I don't even know what I am singing about.
b)confused as to why the song is in Malay.
c)proud that it is in Malay.
4.To be a true blue Singaporean, I have to:
a)be a yes man and follow everything what the government says.follow the system blindly, without any true blue clarification.
b)follow what the next man says. besides, what's there to lose? other than that, I'll just close one eye. As long as everything is stable, I'll be happy.
c)try to stand up to make a point, not neccessarily anti-everything, but kept being pushed down for so-called destablising the system by making so-called derogatory comments, just because 'they' don't like it.
5.This year is special because:
a)after all the SARS hoopla, I have to show more support to the country. Even though I realised that it is the fault of one majority group of people who annoyingly still visited China just because they think, money is more important than everything. It does not occur to me that if this incident was occured as a result of visiting India or Arabia or SEA, that people will blame the minor community for bringing this disease. Majority wins, even though they are at fault.
b)the economy is struggling so I have to bear with all the burden that Singapore has to face.
c)i get a chance to see how many people actually donate to the SARS fund. It shows that when huge publicity is at work in SIngapore, people will be blindfolded in doing stuffs. Also there's a music video, where people are actually trying to sing in memory of SARs victims. Oh and the ingenuity of creating a drama series too. Even though the speed of doing so, just amazes me. I also saw the deterioration of the worker's union, where now workers are at the mercy of how much money the company is raking in.
Sympathy counts for nothing.
6.I look in the future and I see that:
a)I'll be better prepared in booking for next year's NDP ticket
b)I'll try to learn the meaning of the National Anthem's lyrics
c)Everything will be the same. Singaporeans will still shovel against each other at MRT trains, worship anything American or Western but not any third world country, join in the rat race to see who conforms better to mainstream society, retract back any comments that may hurt the system, trying to swallow pride in accepting lower wages while witnessing the inflation of prices of neccessity items, and blog taggers will still put what time they are tagging others. Don't Do THAT!
Verdict: If you answer mostly Cs, can I get to know you?
