1. who will suria focus now as their "artis kebanggaan maaaalayu" ? tofik? those 4 clowns? or hady? possibly they can't ignore any one of them, cos if they do it'll be very "tak baik". expect to see the hari raya spesel performance to be filled to the brim.

2. who in the world wrote that "wing" song? anyone who had a bone must have been frosted hearing the lyrics. it can eligibly enter itself as one of the cheesiest song, evah. hell, even the lyrics are not that o-rrr-iginal. then again, hady should not be dismayed. at least he has a chance to be the ambassador of red bull and not something that combines the word "big" and "gulp". or maybe he'll just do pizza hut. i can just imagine the tagline - had a hady?

3. can somebody tell gurmit singh that he. has. truly. lost. it. the only thing that comes out from his mouth are nonsensical shoutings that far more belong to the zoo than on stage. he can't work the crowd, blurbs quotes that are rather worthless in value, tries to act cute without being funny and vice versa. i cannot think of anything else. too much maybe. but what i can say is he does not have it in him anymore. just. please. go. it is even worse when i do somehow felt that the songeh daniel ong is much better to host this on his own.

4. or why don't they just bring back kui jian. i like him. and maybe others too.

5. why do people keep saying for the winner to do singapore proud? how in the world are they going to achieve that? by going to the united nations general assembly and do a headspin on condy rice? i doubt so. lest people forget, there are already better deserving artists that have made singapore proud, but without much appreciation and fanfare. you'll do your math on this one.

6. sometimes, i still laugh at my own posts. yes, i am weird.

7. i like ja. (partly) cerebal and (mostly) visual. monosyllabic chit chatters have not appeared on tv for a long time. but then again, i would've prefer to have najib ali as one of the panel. oh, come on...najib always delivers.

speaking of Yo's and nigguh talk, I am going to brag about this series which just got downloaded recently. the series is called The Wire. it is about the lives of residents set around the baltimore area, focussing on the trials and tribulations between the drug lords, law enforcement and the people affected by both sides of the law. it is like city of god, set in a slower pace. 4 episodes into season 3, i still can't figure out who is the main character. there are so many of them you cannot pinpoint who is the lead. the dialogue, however, is a real as it gets and the issues that they raised are pure and honest. this is a classic series, surpassing even that, to my opinion, the first season of the sopranos.

really, it is that good. buy it, dl it, anything anything you can get your hands on to it.

another blardy good reason why i dislike being a civil servant.

a servant. don't they get it? you're a servant to the needs of someone who is only interested in their own interests. your words or actions count for nothing. you are just one of the many entities they can control whenever they want to. you are just a puppet. a puppet with strings attached till it leads to your own fated destiny. you may claim that the pay may be good, your future should be settled by being one of their employees, but think twice at the commands you are subjected to execute.

i hope surrounding yourselves with your posse around a harmless woman is one of the reasons why you and many others are so inclined to be in the force, or any other under the umbrella of the big daddy.

your lives and mine are different. your future as a civil servant may be brighter than mine. but, let's put it this way, at least i do not have to be a servant.

occasionally, today paper churns out interesting articles, like this one. he puts into the point, what me and other muslims around the world have been asking about the current situation of muslim politics. the only surprising thing is that for a paper who dismissed one of its staffs for commenting on social issues, it actually prints this article for mass reading. possibly, the main reason behind this is due to the fact the writer is a foreigner. foreign talent must be good mah....

yawning bread gives out another excellent note on mediacork productions. it's true and i doubt they will admit it, but most mediacorp productions spice up with a lot of shebangs in the promotion of the programmes, but ends up with little to ponder and more questions to burn. sesame street is more knowledgeable and in-depth in their programming as compared to these productions. best in asia my foot.

now, is it me or the death of steve irwin and the birth of the new japanese royal baby is but a pure coiincidence? you may never know.

i can never manage my hair. in fact, it is dwindling as we speak.

one day ast year, i met omar through albert. on first hindsight, i never assume he is one of the best hairdresses in singapore. serious, no joke. for a person who deals with a lot of major major, he's one very humble person. sarip likes it that way.

even though the hair is still a mess, sarip still likes to visit his shop. very nice, very ambient one. his, is facing sultan's cafe at bussorah st. do check him out, sure no regret one.

“Singapore Dreaming”, a film produced by the creators of TalkingCock.com, is one damn depressing article.

This is not to say that the film is bad, at least, it is much better than any of Jack Neo's films. It is the way in which it portrays the situation that familiarises everything to our own experiences. It feels real. It feels authentic, without any illusion of mirages. On the downside, the show got rather draggy right after the death of the head of the family, trying to fix in the puzzles that was not explained properly right at the beginning.

Of all the characters, I like Lim Yu Beng's character the most. He always seems to bring a sense of calm and realness to his character. He plays a husband, who quit (possibly) his job from the army and renewed his career as an insurance salesman. Each time he tried to call his long lost friends, and trying to engage them with his services, you can feel his desperation, twisted with little hope and struggle. His moment in life came while engaging a conversation with a Mainland Chinese beer girl on what he should do to achieve something in his life. Ironically so, the advice given by the Mainland Chinese lady sums up what the whole movie is about.

The rest of the characters play typical struggling Singaporeans who dream of having it made in life, without achieving much. Somehow, their characters seem quite disjointed with very vague attributes. Possibly, there are too many characters for the creators to focus on. This is what should be done if the creators are to make another showcase. Possibly a spin off on Lim Yu Beng's character. Maybe I am just bias, but I can relate most to his character as it is what the majority of us are experiencing.

And yes, as if this is the most engaging secret of all, money is the root of all evil. It does not matter how good your career path is leading to, or how much money you are raking in, or how successful your dreams are achieving, but if you are not ready to accept what is the best for you and those that surround you, nothing will ever satisfy your cravings. And then you will try to make up for lost time to try and strive for that faint hope, and in the end, if your spirit is not strong enough, you'll just crumble and break down.

it is teacher's day t'day. the only happening reason why i love about this day is because all centres will be closed. good 'ne.

to all those teachers who loves the job simply because they looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooove the spirit of teaching in moe schools, i have two words for you - get. real.

yesterday was malaysia's 49th independence celebration. i am weird as evah, but i feel more for this celebration than stinkapura's, for a) this independence celebration always reminded me that it marks the beginning of the end of blardy blittish colonial rule over malay land and b) that negaraku song is the beat that skipped my heart. i am malay like that.

maybe have something to do with my dad lah. all the time while i was growing up, the only news that he is interested are those in buletin utama and dunia jam 10 feat. ismeth. rarely i have seen him watching singapore news. i asked him why, and he'll just go "ah, merepek ah berita singapore!". i shrugged, he shrugged. the most funny thing is he'll start comparing the condition between singapore and malaysia each time, and this is what buletin utama does best, a petty issue is sensationalised over the air. then he'll go, "eleeeeeeeeeeeh, ni kalau kat singapore misti tak jadi cam gini....mana ada sistem diaorang tuh!" hah, the nerve of him to say such thing. and trust me 8 out of 10 malay singaporeans always compares and says the same thing. kapala sepunding ah they all. maciam mana kaum malayu mau maju?

imran johari's act in last week's talkingcock in parliament: we the citizen at the old parliament house was simply entertaining, especially to the references by malay singapore parents to their perception towards malaysia. i have no idea what had gone into these parents minds when the only thing all day that interests them in news and entertainment comes from there. it is somehow like a different dimension whenever their sons and daughters are venturing to there. anyways, you can view his performance here.

the other very very very very entertaining speakers on that night were of course assoc. prof kirpal singh (the turbanator) and ruby pan. someone in the commitee should take up Pro Kirpal Singh's idea of making babies as a national service liao. and yes, ruby pan. she brought the house down. i guess by now hundreds of blog posts had been written about her wonderful skit. i just had to join the bandwagon on this one too and just possibly because she might be dissing towards daniel ong. that is good enough for me. don't ask why, i just haiti hate anything about him.

mr alex yu of yawning bread skit was interesting until that bloke from the other side of house starts slamming on the bench and giggling while probing questions, parliament style. it was a nice surprise though.

the only downer of performance was from this doooode sam wu, who talks nonsensical about being gay and all. this was the guy, while in the toilet kept asking *his partner* how he looked like. with individuals like him around, i will always have to be on my tenterhooks, but that will be another story.

anyways, i was like searching for malay songs and it is so difficult to locate them. it used to be from irc to get them but let's be honest with ourselves here - who the freak still irc nowadays?! and so my trail goes on and on and on just to find those melayu mp3s. i was like so looking for the headwind song segala mungkin. zainal abidin's voice is tha bomb man in that song.

and so as life suppose to live it up, i came across this site that distributes the songs. very nice. it has p.ramlee's, sudirman's, zainal's, jamal's and m. nasir's. live it up!

imma having fever since last weekend. strange fever this is, not as severe as my *normal* fever, but definately this is the longest. it has not died down yet and it's freaking me out.

because of the condition, this doc did not give me the normal Paracetamol, but this muscle relaxant thingy wingy. i was, "yo! wassup wif da pill?!"

but the nurse forced me to live it up. so i swallowed. twice. and the next thing i can see are tinkerbells and hummingbirds flying beside me. man, this is almost as good as the morphine i received a few years back.

and i've been popping this thing for the past few days, for every four hours.

nice.

but don't misunderstand. yes, i am a mat and mats always have a thing for freaky fetishes. i don't know why. other than chandu, i figured most of the intoxicants here in singapore are started out by mats. glue lah, ganja lah, and now this subutex. they're very innovative to get a kick when no one suspects of the item beforehand. hell, the might even drink petrol if the dire kicks in.

no one predicted subutex to be very class a until the mats make it very big recently. but as i say, mats being the ever innovative, they might stamp on these muscle relaxants as the new substance before anybody notices it. just, a reminder.

watching the emmy's this morning and seeing 24, the office, the daily show with jon stewart and what nots picking up the prizes make a very exciting glee to my 39 degrees celsius body temperature. no, it is not a case of a geek (partly) who had nothing better to do, but it is just a thought for those mediacork executives who blatantly (as usual) declares itself as the home of the emmys when none, i say that, NONE of the shows it is showing NOW won anything significant. for those who saw the advertisements, mediacork unembarrasingly proclaimed will lost and desperate housewives sweep off the competition pronto. hellloooooooooooooooooo? don't you guys at mediacork do your homework? lost and d.h. were not EVEN nominated for best series and so how could you say such a sentence? tch. this can result in a defamation suit tau for anyhow say one...

this is the atypical of singapore. size so small, but yet ego so big. we need to practice some humility, some perspective and not thinking we are capable to be the best in everything. confidence is one issue, hubris is another.

when this site was set up, the main intention was for me to convey everything in malay. i am a malay mat, raised up in the culture and still living it till this day. however, ashamed it is so, it has not been keep up to pace lately. this, due to certain reasons lah. i am (still) trying to practice myself in expressing *better* english, better. the level is still not as proficient as desired, but as the cliche goes - practice make perfect, yes? also, in trying to inflate my ego further, i am dreaming to myself that by conversing in english, this site may appeal to a wider audience. i am still trying to figure that out with little success. BUT! as always, learning consists of many steps, and if there are any kind souls out there, do point out my mistakes for me to learn. evil souls are welcomed too.

i will still post posts in malay at times too for the same reasons as above. one step at a time.

anyway, to cut the long story short, the sole reason why i am on this verge of *self-reflecting* notion is to bring out the topic of idealising malay and its language. it may sound ironical and contradicting for it to be shared upon in english, but then who in this world may care, right? though i may be surprised if anyone will be bothered to read this up to this point. so before anyone will bleep out remarks such as, "this guy ngengada plak. inggeris dah berterabuh, lepas tuh nak handle topik pasal bahasa melayu...", you can always clean the dusts on your keyboard and moved on.

if anyone of you reads berita harian each tuesday, there is this section written by Dr Liaw Yock Fang, teaching the readers on the wonderful fundamentals and history of malay and its language. for once, i thought, berita harian had become sensible to print out recognisable and reputable articles in its pages. there was this one article in which he wrote about the origins of malay, and how the language was developed. my description of the story is very vague, so i will just leave it to that. however, if you do happen to read berita harian on tuesdays, do check out his articles. i, for one, will be keeping his articles for keepsakes. what surprises me was that the history of malay is full of discrepencies and vagueness as compared to others. there is little documentation in regards of this, and it saddens me on why this is so. and the best part of this, most of the research and historical papers are collated by non-malays such as dr. liaw himself. but i may be ignorant and naive at this point, and who i am to fool? i am but only one and my knowledge is too shallow to make an observation.

there is also this wonderful article by mr alex yu of the yawning bread fame. the information is detailed and makes for very interesting reading.

i am very grateful for these 2 men to provide me and others these information. i have to point out here, that i had been ignorant on the historical part and this may had been produced by other malay writers, which i have to admit i have yet to recognise.

but that is not the point of this topic. it is just that i cannot understand why others and myself can't recognise who our prominent historians are. i am a malay, yet i know very little of it. we live in a time whereby parents are concentrating more on the importance of english than our own. i do understand english will be an important commodity for the child's future, but what i cannot relate is the accusation of communication in malay is backward trending. this is not the first time i have brought up this subject, and i do sound like a broken record with no other content to bring out.

i have just this crazy theory on the impact of the redundancy of the malay language if it is not kept. the malay leaders often keep emphasising on our social issues that is eroding our values as a whole. shoot me if you want to, but i guess the main problem with malays at this time is not the issue of drugs usage or abusive families but it is the erosion of our malay(ness) identity. it is not a surprise to many, that many malays are not proud to proclaim themselves as one. they feel the values of being a malay is one that is not highly important, and sometimes i for one do feel subjected to this. it is contradictory then when we are ashamed is due to the actions of our own people. i do not know how to express this well, but we can observe that it is a vicous cycle that is slowly eeking out our identity as a race altogether. we rarely value our language and history. we feel that it is not comfortable to engage communication in malay. if this continues, then the term "bahasa menunjukkan bangsa" will forever be lost from us. it may sound inappropriate at this time, but if this situation continues, we shall see more social problems like what is happening now. as we let go of our language and heritage, we will lose our identity, our focus and would not know where we belong to. and the cycle will continue.

so, what shall we do about this? how do we put pride back into our own identity? how do we remove all the stigma, negativity and perception of our own heritage? i want my malayness back, like in the good 'ol days of the 50s and 60s. i want to converse with my malay friends in our own proper language. i want to be comfortable and others too in this zone of malay-ness. i want to be proud of being one. i want and i want.

and hopefully, one day it will become a need.

there was once, while sitting at the void deck of my block, where he asked what life is all about. we were 22. and at that moment, i can see that he'd changed as a whole. lesser were seen of the yesteryears when he will do the para para hand dance at hyper speed, or lying stoned drunk under the LOVE sculpture. he'd changed, and moved on.

i met him first about 10 years ago, and the friendship strucked from there onwards. we travelled, gave encouragement and advises, and shared experiences through laughter and whatnots.

i remember him as one of those "real janji melayu" types. you know, the ones who said he'd arrived at 1 but actually will appear at 2. once bogey was quite mad because of this; that will be another story. i remember, when i used to head over to his place @ dover road, to hang out, when i don't feel like going home. i remember the time, when my dad's arowana committed suicide because it saw him - that mystery never seem to unravel itself till this day.

someone once said, a good friend is not one you spent time most with, but how it was spent with. you've come this far, and entering this new phase of life, we wish you all the best, and may God guide you well.

1. it's the only country in the world, or maybe the universe, that increases its fares *periodically* when its profits increases year after year after year.

2. it's population go crazy for it's fireworks as an excuse to be patriotic to the nation. bah.

3. it forces residents to pay for upgrading works when the town councils has funds that do not know where it goes to.

4. the media produces mind numbing shows and proclaims it is the best in asia when in actual fact it also produces the award shows in its home turf to give it to themselves. talk about giving a pat on the back.

5. the weather is hot AND humid. but the people still dressed dressed up like they are residing in belfast.

6. 66.6% of its people have little, guts.

7. it forces its 4 million people to smile whenever a big convention is being held here.

8. they covert westerners or atas foreigners more than its people and employs them for high position posts when similar capable locals can do it and then complains to the media why its locals do not want to take up jobs as cashiers and other low-level service jobs.

9. most of its people are not allowed to speak up.

10. it feels disgusted to know that its history was modernised by a swindling englishman who tricked a stupid as hell melayu sultan who should not be even called one.

there is this nyonya eatery at bishan located at the end of its interchange, next to mcdonalds. i won't know how long it's been there, but what i can acknowledge is that the food there is damn bloody good. very peranakkan style, and light on consumption. they have this technique of making a good fried rice. this is something new to me. you cook the rice, fridge it overnight and fry the damn thing at a very high temperature for 3 minutes. the idea here is to not let the rice become sticky and so forth.

each time i proceed to the bishan centre, i would go there for lunch. without fail. enjoying the dish, i was a bit disturbed when i realised that, lo and behold, the hungry ghost festival had just started. custard! albert told me that this year will be a bit *worse* since this is the leap year in the chinese calender. this year's festival will run for 2 damn blardy months. DOUBLE CUSTARD! as if having litter and ash and getai shows running for one month is unbearable, i'm trying to sink in the idea of having two.

but in a way of not getting defamed for disturbing this racial harmony thingamagic we have here in kambingpura, i'll try not to instigate more hatred. furthermore, this IS company time and i'm writing this blog and surfing looking at that cute ms japan first-runner-up-ms-universe-whatchamalit. kurara cheeeeeeebana HAAAAAAAAAAIT!

so, in good spirits i'm trying to be positive due to this unfortunate circumstance of having 2 months worth of burn and ash and bad singing in open fields late into the nights. thus i am looking this in the point of view as a smoker and relates how these two are similar to each other. as a smoker, but a reduced one but still loves his fags, i cannot but stop noticing that it is a hassle that smoking is now not allowed at foodplaces. smokers know that the best time to smoke IS after eating. YEAH! especially after you ate that hot and spicy meal and you then light up a stick and the smoke just caress your tongue and rush into your nasal pipes, a feeling of a slight burn, pepperish to a slight. that, that is the sensation you feel which may not materialise much at eateries nowadays. or, how about having a cuppa, chilled or hot, and with the slight taste of cocoa still lingers in your tastebuds, the slight burning sensation rushes in to fill your lungs. oh, the sensation!

but as a kambingpuraian,i do understand the need for the ban in smoking at eateries. people cannot eat properly if smokers linger around because medical reports state that secondhand smoke is not healthy (as if). BUT! it is ok for eateries to be located by the roadsides with heavy traffic and buses burning with bad diesel and emitting black smoke. or it's still ok for eateries to serve super fat food that clog up the arteries and build up the cholesterol level. that is all ok, but smoking? oh nah...that is highly dangerous.

i do not want to invoke old stories into new ones. gotta live and let live with it.

i do have a suggestion though. a brilliant one that is.

here it is.

in conjuction with the hungry ghost burning festival, may i suggest to the authorities that we have a smoking month every year? not to worry, we smokers do not have any leap years. one month will suffice. i don't see how this is bad for everyone, when we have people burning stuffs here, there and everywhere. get the cue here?

i promise i won't punch any mps if this does not pass through like what happened with that uncle from amk. though i do have this temptation of using this - the tampon shooter.

3) What happens if one is substituted?

Having religiously got up at 4am for the past two weeks here in Australia to firstly watch a fast-forwarded version of the 1am game before settling down to breakfast and the live 5am game, I now find myself strangely searching for things to do during these ungodly hours. 1. pixar movies are always fulfilling. though i may not be certain now that it has gone fully under the wing of disney. those fairy talers bastards. but then, cars was still very nice. the cgi was magnificent, and the storyline was tight.

2. even though after awhile, you can predict the characters which appear in pixar's (or dreamwork's) feature.

3. guido was, to me and the f&%^#&$^$ irritating toddlers (breatheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee in sarip), the quirkest character of the lot. c'mon, who would not laugh when he cries 'pit stop!' and changed those tyres in record time.

4. if not for guido, i doubt i'd take a 'pit stop!' and would've strangled that kid behind me with any empty popcorn holder. or from any of the scenes from 'the cannibal holocust'. blardy irritating kid who can't keep the mouth shut.

checksea fc last time was a normal club. got many people like them. how not to like? got hoolit play, got gola play, then got this frenchie guy labawoof oso. they play stylo mylo. attractive and play to the heart one. and so almost everyone like them. except to that kenny bate guy lor. he chairman ugry for power. so as years go buy, sentiments grow on them. more and more people like, even though they win little. then under viallak period in 97, they won the effa cup. first time they won something after so long since i think osgood and greavsie days. that time first time they win, everyone happy, cos they win fair square one. no accuse accuse, no say bad things to other people. they just let the feet do the talking. end of day, everyone happy.

then suddenly, got russian fella took over the club. suddenly, money coming in like no tomorrow. they suddenly become vair good, good until win title back to back with vair high points one. at first people thought ok, nehmind, cos the chief in charge ranierak vair humble one. no accuse accuse, no pinpointing when make mistake. but then they say win is everything, so he kena throw out. come in this makrinho. he vair professional, perfectionist and can fill up forms vair well one. best still, he can deliver the title. his team so good, beat everybody backside like nobody business. and cos of that, his head grow vair big. he start to say things to people to make people angry. he know he has the power, so he like to play mind games on other manager. and the weak manager when hear what he say, they all hide one corner dont dare to say anything, cos if not kena thrashing like mad.

and as the success go by, more arrogant they become. they think they deserve to win everything on sight. and cos of this, lesser and lesser people start liking them. then they ask, how come them people start not to like them? they call these people stupid cos not making the right choice. worse, when they lose, they anyhow hentam anyone who dont give in to their way. hack here hack there, until even got referee retire suddenly cos cannot tahan their mouth. even players who they want to sign but kena reject they poke fun at them saying they wont have a good life, cos other club cannot promise them glory like they can give.

but not all player got scared by them. they still believe in themselves that they no need upgrading of club to have a better life. they say what for upgrade when later in the long run they have to sit on bench if suddenly they out of favor. might as well they play more, so can enjoy more. and still can win title oso.

makrinho got more frustrated. even after he win big, he still donno why people criticise him. so now he try to get all best player so no other club can have them. in this case best, so other club cannot enjoy success, only them they want to.

but as time go by, more and more manager and player braver owedi. they know now how to counter their tactic. all they have to do is to keep faith and stay on their ethics. they kept together, stay together, fight together. and more and more people start liking them cos they feel there is more purpose to support them, rather than cheaksea fc cos they say feel hollow support them as always win most times no fight.

but reality they know this fight ony beginning. they know, dynasty cannot last forever one. like quantum physics or something liddat. only hope they can have is to stay together, fight together, and believe together. and from there, everything is possible.
